Young NOPHO – The future of NOPHO

Young NOPHO is the junior faculty of NOPHO. Any NOPHO member with a self-perception of being young (e.g., not just yet a senior consultant in paediatric oncology, or not just yet an independent research group leader in the field of paediatric oncology) is entitled to be a Young NOPHO member.

Young NOPHO’s mission

NOPHO is internationally renowned for its successful clinical trials. However, NOPHO is more than clinical research at its best. Young NOPHO therefore has a strong focus on both clinical education/research and on basic and translational science in the field of paediatric oncology. Young NOPHO is therefore a platform for both junior physicians and non-clinical junior researchers.

Who Can Join

The purpose of Young NOPHO is to represent and support physicians in training and junior researchers who are pursuing a career in pediatric hematology and oncology. Membership in Young NOPHO is open to graduate students, early-career physicians and junior researchers with an active interest in pediatric hematology and/or oncology. Individuals who hold a permanent position within the field are not eligible for Young NOPHO membership and instead belong to the main NOPHO organization.

how to join young nopho

Education

Young NOPHO promotes harmonization of the education within and between the NOPHO countries. This is important both regarding clinical education for paediatric oncologists in training as well as for junior researchers. Collaboration with both NOPHO’s Educational Committee and Educational bodies on the SIOPE and SIOP level are therefore important. We are particularly proud of our Young NOPHO Educational Days that are intended for both clinicians and non-clinicians. A Young NOPHO initiative, NOPHO Exchange, will hopefully soon also allow for international clinical rotations of paediatric oncologists in training.

Science

Young NOPHO believes that translational research could be brought more to the picture. This necessarily entails bringing together clinicians and pre-clinical researchers. Young NOPHO is committed to represent both clinicians and non-clinical researchers. Furthermore, we advocate increased (pre-clinical) research activity of paediatric oncologists. E.g., we would like to see a research fellow track for paediatric haematologist-oncologists.
